From the Junke family
mentioned in the former note two brothers Karl Gustav and Vilhelm
Rudolf choose to emigrate. They left Sweden 1907, KG already married
and with two children used the surname Hjort which was used earlier
by his maternal grandmother.
Wife and children are noted
in Ellis Island record as coming Jun 23, 1907 with ship Celtic from
Liverpool heading for Carl Hjort in Troy, Idaho which means he is
already there.
In 1920 census the family
also contains a girl together with the two boys born in Sweden. Names
and ages as below:
Carl J
Hjort 45 (also Carl Gustav)
Bertha Hjort 44
Carl
Edvin Hjort 16
Olof
Samuel Hjort 14 (dies as student Jun 9, 1921 from skull fracture
after falling)
Hulda L
Hjort 10
(Census 1920, South Troy,
Latah, Idaho)
The WW1 draft for Carl notes
him as naturlized citizen with his right arm paralized.
Vilhelm Rudolf has only been
found in census 1930 when staying with brother Carl (still in Latah)
but is noted as leaving Sweden about the same time as his brothers
family.
Washington Death
Certificates states Carl G. Hjort dies July 16, 1948 in Seattle,
King. Washington at the age of 73 years 10 months 1 day. Some of his
descendants still seem to live in this area.
Hulda marries Joseph Hamlin
